Heat Treating

BendTec performs heat treatment operations on metals with induction heating equipment utilizing scanners and batch furnaces.

The following types of heat treatment are performed:

  • stress relieving
  • normalizing
  • annealing
  • quenching and tempering

The induction scanning equipment will handle pipe and shafts up to 42 feet long. One machine is capable of scanning bends with straight tangents on both ends.

Heat treating

  • 50 ft. long, 20 ft. wide, 15 ft. high gas-fired oven, to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit
  • 9 ft. long, 9 ft. wide, 4 ft. high gas-fired oven, to 2,100 degrees Fahrenheit
  • 2 car bottom furnances 54' x 13' x11'

Stainless Steel Pickling

Facilities are available for pickling and passivating stainless steels.

Blasting/Coatings

Blasting
BendTec utilizes steel shot and grit blasting equipment for most of its blast cleaning requirements. The major equipment for this cleaning is:

  • A Guttmann wheel blasting machine, which uses a roller conveyor to move the material through the cabinet
  • 2 blast rooms 30 ft. long, 12 ft. wide and 15 ft. high, which uses Vacublast blast recovery and recycle system
  • Sandblasting equipment for metals other than steel

Painting
A ventilated and heated paint room with overhead conveying equipment is used for much of the painting requirements.

Fusion Bond Epoxy Coating

A 300 KW Pillar induction heating unit heats the pipe to about 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Epoxy powder is fused onto the pipe surface using electrostatic spraying equipment, where it melts and then solidifies upon cooling to provide an excellent corrosion-resistant coating for pipe that is to be buried underground.

Linings

Ceramic Lining
Ceramic Lining creates an abrasion-resistant coating inside the pipe. Pneumatic conveying of pulverized coal is the primary application for this process.

Urethane and Rubber Lining
We offer urethane and rubber lining to prevent erosion of piping.

Transportation

BendTec’s plants are served by:
