Cady Way is a rails-to-trails project with 685 feet of bridge structure.
Its basket-handle arch was fabricated in three sections to facilitate shipping and then erected on site with bolted flange connections.The arches are connected by 12 individual 20-inch O.D. by .500 wt struts using bolted flanged connections.
The 430-foot crossing was built to replace Chicago’s historic, but aging North Avenue Bridge. The new bridge features an unusual hybrid cable-stay/suspension design.
Thurston Avenue Bridge serves as a gateway between the residential and academic areas of Cornwell’s campus, each day carrying more than 12,000 cars and 2,000 pedestrians. BendTec was the fabricator for the bridge’s reconstruction.
